Propshaft length
I wonder if any of you with your engine/box and rear end in
can tell me the length of their propshaft. From the diff flange to the face of the box input shaft. I asked Ash, he said he thinks his is 644mm. As you may or may not know, I have modded the rear end to make the wheel base 25mm longer. Now the engine is in I can order the new prop. Measured it yesterday....635mm !!!!!! Was expecting 670mm, not sure what's going on. Everything else should be to the book. So thought I would ask what lengths other people have. Cheers |
Just measured Handy's (Oooerrr misses), and his is 600mm flange to flange mine was about the same from memory. It all depends how far back you site the engine, mine was as far back as poss.
So 600 + 25mm would be a close match. Regards....AndyH |
humm that's strange. just measured it again ad its defiantly 644mm
i got it back as far as i possibly could. in fact the first time i put it in the clutch fork touched the tunnel so i had to shift it forward a bit. |

Cheers for the input guys.
Using the reverse switch and the upright as a set point. My switch is a goosd bit behind the upright. So poss that's where the shortness came from. Still got clearence for the clutch arm......just! Couple of pics. The reverse switch ain't fitted but you can see the ole. Also a pic of the phlenum through the bonnet. No reason just thought I'd post it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yup, full rollcage. It's not quite finished yet though. Waiting for Jill to arrive so she can help me remove it. Then I can get to those hidden welds. English plug...got to have them. Bl***y French ones keep falling out. Also can't be assed to change them |
looking nice David
i bet your hands were sweating cutting the hole in the bonnet  "is it the right place to cut" etc:eek: as for the prop distance, i must admit when i made new engine mounts last week cos i,ve fitted the land rover rubber,s , i did move the engine back about 15mm from where i had it originally. cheers andy |
