Anyone know anything about the 2.3 V6 type 9 gearbox?

Am I right in thinking that the 2.3 v6 type 9 gearbox has the same ratios as the standard sierra box, and it's only the 2.8 and 2.9 gearboxes that have the shorter gearing? But the 2.3 does have the longer input shaft, requiring a spacer between gearbox and bellhousing if I want to use it with a zetec engine?

Cheers

This is probably one for TT as I think he knows the ratios off by heart:eek:

From memory and a few notes taken at the time;

"There are several versions of the manual type 9 box depending on model and intended market.

* All 4 cylinder except 2.0inj and DOHC
* 2.0inj and 2.3V6 - All V6 have longer first motion shaft
* XR4i (rwd) 2.8 same as Capri 2.8i
* XR4x4 2.8 same as MK2&3 Granada but with 4wd system in tailshaft housing.
* XR4x4 2.9 ??! - is all I have on this one so probably didn't encounter one.
* All V6 and DOHC from mid 1989 replaced with the new Manual type 7."

The above needs confirming and as I can no longer log onto the Ford network I can't check this is totally correct. Also how you identify a box you buy S/H without the designation tag is anyones guess.

Not all had different ratio's some model designations maybe related to other changes, i.e. bearings or material spec. etc.

Brian Hill at BGH Gearteck maybe able to shed some light?

I would speak to BGH geartech as mentioned as they will build what you want and not too badly priced.I bought the uprated box with standard shaft to go with a 20v 4age and it is designed to cope with up to 240bhp,cost about 700quid incl del i think(uk del!!)

You are correct, the V6 2.3 box has the same ratios as the standard box.
