Muck Up!
ARGGHHHHGHHHHHHHH
I've just done a right stupid thing. I'm fitting the rear Fog lamp in the aluminium tub that took 2 evenings to make and another to fit. So its 2 small holes for bolts and a large hole for the body of the lamp. I carefully marked it all out, double checked, braced the thin metal with timber to stop deforming....... Then I only drilled the 44mm hole drill on one of the 4mm bolt holes. Fu@k. How on earth do I fix that cock up? So either I have wonky lights or as the car is getting sprayed when its done, I'm thinking of bonding an aluminium piece over the mess and filling / sanding it smooth. Do you think that would be ok? I'll take a photo tomoz so you can all laugh at me :( |
Bonded cover plate would be my choice.

If it doesnt look odd or put your lights out of position for iva do the same thing with the reverse on the otherside so it looks even!

dont bond it and paint over. i guarantee that it will crack and show through the paint. if you havent got access to a tig welder get a few sticks of limiweld. you heat the ali up with a normal blow torch then apply the lumield to the area to be joint. the chemical raction eats in to the ali and fuses the two pieces together.

Luckily the cowl / mount for the lamp is large enough to cover my muck up..... Phew  So I have bonded a section of aluminium over the gap, to mount the revised lamp position to.

Well I would never have known from looking at the second pic! Are those angled pods you are using?
|
Yeah, The pods are angled. Got them (and the rest of the rear lights) from a guy on Ebay. Ebay KitCar parts
