How does everyone form the curve in the tubes for the other tube to sit in for the bushes ? Do I need a milling machine or can it be done another way ?

You mean the fish mouths? either with a fish mouth cutter, hacksaw and file/grinder.. etc

I brought my wishbones but the curve you mention is the same as the one that I did to join the cross piece to my roll bar.

Bodged the first one then someone pointed me to a web site that has a program which allows you to print out the curve on paper which you then wrap around the tube, mark out then cut. I used a flap disc.

I know the tubes for the bones are a lot smaller than my roll bar cross piece but I am sure with some fettling you would get there.

That's what I was trying think what they were called ! Fish mouths, didn't know the could been done with flap discs ? Any grit recommend ?

The flap disc I use is a "60" grade, just take your time, don,t go mad with the removal of steel, keep checking the fit etc it will eventually get there.

In a strange way its quite satisfying when it all fits "snugly" together :cool:

then again i suppose playing with steel is fairly new to you wot with you being a sailor..
when you have been bashing steel and twirlin spanners for nearly "( cough ) "
years you get to the fit you Bas####d stage quite quickly.

Known as birds' mouths in the States (where they do lots of this stuff). If you want to google info (or go on you tube) you'll get more results with the birds' mouth description, I expect

Have a search on t'internet for a free utility called tubemitre. It's a simple program that allows you to input the diameter of the tube you are profiling, the diameter of the tube it mates to, the tube thickness and the angle at which they meet. you can then print out a paper template which you can stick to your tube with pritt stick. It will show you exactly how the tube needs to be profiled, works every time.
