Engine clerance

Started trial fitting my engine this afternoon, but having a few issues.

My reverse light switch is very close to the transmision tunnel upright of the chassis (with the gearbox aligned central with the tunnel). I can't move it any futher back as the thermostat housing touches the chassis.

I could move the full lot 2" foward, but i'm sure the futher back, the better. (EDIT: thinking about it, then my gearstick would be through a chassis tube, so that won't work)

Any tips?

Cheers

Dave

I made a recess in the top rail for the thermostat housing. This way everything fits nicely.

The same as mine or Alga's??

Same as yours done 3k now and its never been a problem. As long as its not actually touching you won't have any problems.

Ah ok. I'll make the engine mounts up today then. Cheers

Ash & I were discussing the length of our propshafts  :D the other night, & we were quite surprised that they are within 2mm of eachother,

So as a "guide"......if you measure from the rear diff flange to the rear edge of the gearbox housing , where the splined end of the prop goes into the gearbox....

my measurement is 625mm , & when my prop was made to measure by D&F they asked what was the total length to the gearbox oil seal inside the housing, which on mine is 17mm, so they supply a prop a little longer to ensure it goes beyond the oil seal.

So, my prop measurement is 642mm to the oil seal...
Ash,s prop measurement to oil seal is 644mm.

The measurement from the the diff flange to the rear edge of the gearbox housing is a good guide when using a type 9 gearbox. If you are concerned about the rubber plug that connects onto the reverse light switch you could always just solder the wires to the pins which would give a little more clearance to the tranny tunnel upright.

Hope this is of some help.

David....wow you really are cracking on with your build, nice one

cheers

Ahh :D ok then, not alot of help then until you can mount your diff :o

put it this way....the pins on my reverse light switch are just a bit rearwards of that tranny tunnel upright :D

ahhhhh its no big deal driving it ........kidding.... I,m still grinning :D , keep at it, its a great moment.

cheers

Had a slow day today for some reason, couldnt get motivated :(

Got the gearbox mount bolted into posotion and made up the exhaust side engine mount. When it comes down to it, there is only one position where everything has clerance, so in theory i should get the same measurement when my diff is mounted. :)

Theres a pic in my build diary below, but i'm on my phone at the moment, so cant post it on this thread.
