Mx-5

Not sure what engine I want in my new build but My brother has a rotting 1.6 mx-5 uk spec on a G plate on his drive, its' done high mileage but is free to me if I want any of it.

What if anything could I use. I don't intent to buy a complete sierra donor rather amass the right bits over time.

Was thinking the engine and gearbox as it will be non cat IVA and have a feeling the ecu and inlet will be an easy swap into the haynes.
Drive it for a bit and either upgrade to a 1.8 mx-5 engine or go zetec etc.

is the gearbox a similar size to the the type 9? Anyone used a mx5 steering column. I'll proberbly keep the back end sierra and the front uprigts to keep things simple.

There's a few people building MX5 based roadsters (ie using uprights & diff's) so I'd be tempted to use the whole lot & forget the Sierra.

Rumour is there's going to be an updated version of the book with this kind of info in....?

If you're not interested I'll take the whole car off your hands ;)

Yep that's mine - I need to update my build thread as the rear dif is now mounted and I am about to drop the motor into the frame to test fit and get the motor/gearbox mounts sorted the only component not directly usable off the MX5 is the steering rack as it is about 150mm too long - I am using the Ford offering I think.

Thanks all.
It looks like you need to widen the tranny tunnel a bit.
I think I was looking at it from a cheap engine and gearbox for IVA perspective. Rather than a complete donor
