Automotive Grade UNF Nuts

Hi All,

After getting back from my 2 weeks vehicle mechanics trade training with the TA and spending the day at Goodwood Revival (with VIP (for free might i add), due to a very generous mate), I am getting back on with my build.

I have now ordered a new rubber hose for my regulator meaning I will be able to start welding again, so I am trying to get everything prepared for when that arrives. So I have started making the pedal box and I am now trying to source the 7/16 UNF nuts for the seatbelt mounts.

Could anyone tell me where to buy the 7/16 UNF nuts in automotive grade that would be suitable for the purpose of harness mounting points? I have had a look on ebay but there is no mention of grade.

Cheers

Hi Simon

Nuts are not normaly grades in the same way as bolts, for general purpose engineering anyways.

Most nuts are usualy grade 8 .... These will be fine for use as a captive nut for the seatbelt mounts.

As far as I am aware, there is no IVA requirement to have 8.8 stamped on the nut, only on the bolts.

Most bolt stockists should keep those nuts in stock. ( Fairly common imperial size )

If you have trouble finding them, my local steel holder keeps them :)

M & S at Newburn ind est does them if you are at home.

Once you whack them with the welder the metalurgy goes out the window so the spec makes no difference ( I think ).
