Hi guys,

Regarding the propshaft,

Did you guys cut and weld yourselves or did you get someone to do it for you?

Any tips on measuring the exact lenths?

Cheers

Dunning and Fairbank Leeds,or Commercial Propshafts Gateshead,TVTE.

It's not worth taking the chance and needs to be perfect.

nice one, ill give them a bell. I didnt really fancy risking it to be honest, knowing my luck id turn my car into a very expensive flail!

I got mine from D&F, excellent job, £100 cheaper than other quotes I got and they were very quick. I recommend them highly.

I too got mine from D&F of Leeds, paid on a tuesday, installed into my car on the friday, top class service.
I went for the "uprated" one that will handle more power/torque, total cost was £134.95 including delivery, made to measure, fully balanced.

They ask for the distance from the diff flange to the gearbox oil seal, then they add a bit on to ensure it goes past the oil seal.

My prop length is 642mm, Ash G,s is 644mm, tho it all depends on the placement of engine & gearbox into the chassis, if its the Type 9 box then the reverse light switch more or less determines the position in the chassis.....having the switch about 10mm rearwards of TT4 seems to be about right.

I have seen the result of a sierra 4x4 front prop failure and it's not good for the car.

cant stress it enough - go for a new prop shaft professionally built, D & F have always been very good.

Unless you have your sierra one professionally shortened and balanced, would probably cost the same as a new bespoke one though.

thanks guys,

im gonna go with D&F as there only half an hour away, i need to get alot done to the chassis yet though, i think my target of a rolling chassis by chistmas may have been a little optimistc:( ......

Got mine from North West Propshafts near Bolton. Cost £98.00 + vat was ready in 2 days, excellent service. By the time you have a Ford prop shortened and balanced its hardly any cheaper.
