car insurance for my eldest sprog
what ho chaps,
ive just been trying to sort out the boys insurance (we were on a multi car policy).he's been driving for a 1 1/2 years in a 1.2 corsa thats worth about the same as the petrol in it,nice safe little car ,driven by a nerd. the quotes im getting back are frightening.i want to start him on his own policy but the cost looks to be prohibitive. £1701.20 from admiral if we pay upfront,£2301.20 if monthly...and thats one of the cheapest any suggestions gratefully accepted. he's 19 and has the reflexes of a cat, so how can he be more of a risk than say a 60 yr old man. at this rate ill never get him to leave home(he eats like a horse). andy |
Its worth trying the insurance in the magazines such as max power etc, they generally have a quote number in the back, or some insurance companies give discounts if they are in a car club.
In my nova days i used these to get my insurance down, but that was then, so i guess prices are similar with inflation. Have you tried go compare the confused super meerkat .com? Good Luck |
ive been on all the popular comparing sites, none actually offer young driver quotes, looks like its roller skates for now.

Has your lad done Pass Plus ? Direct Line gave my son nearly £400 off when he got his. I would try Direct Line or Collingwood, next try Adrian Flux - stay away from the comparison sites, absolutely useless for young men.
|
I agree with adrian flux, liverpool victoria used to cater for younger drivers too

Andy, get your self (or even better your wife?) put on his insurance as a named driver. My step son (24) brought a fiesta 1.6 zetec as a first car and had qoutes of £1900-2600 for a car worth £1500. His mum is his named driver and got Admiral down to £1400. Although using the same engine in a roadster from Adrian flux worked out to be £800.

if you want a good laugh ask for a quote on a kitcar
when we was goin round exetershow a guy was toutin for quotes Tj said ok then and the bloke choked he said ..Quote we have just had a claim for an 18yr old in a westfield that settled for £160,000 you have no chance whoops............. cheers les g |
I'm 19, i currently have a ford ka, with a mondeo zetec engine fitted (and declared)
I pay £1300 with adrian flux. (1 year no claims) Hoping i can get the roadster on the same policy when i'm 20 (fairly soon), with another years no claims for not too much more if i'm lucky. :o |
i can only suggest changing the car to a classic , if you search on google theres a list of the cheapest cars for a 17 yr old to insure
the good old mini or vw beetles are one of the cheapest to insure and if you approach a classic car company for a quote you wont be too dissapointed pass plus is pretty much useless nowadays as insurers have stopped recognising it as they say it doesnt make a younger driver safer or on another note how do you think hed feel about a "little op" girlies get cheaper quotes ! |
thanks for the replies chaps.
im waiting on adrian flux to call back. gone are the days when your car was more expensive than your quote. i had a succession of fast mini's and never couldn't afford the premiums. im 43 and so get quite low quotes. on one site we were offered a quote, and this is for a 1.2 corsa breeze(16v)............£8302.00. the car cost £695.00, is in ok condition and is by no stretch of the imagination a hot hatch, come on give the kids a chance... their not all raving, drinking, pot smoking nutters.some just need to get to sainsburys for their job and then to the gym to do their personal training coarse.... andy |
