Chassis base?
 

Happy new year one and all!!

Now ive had a Handandy special flatpack for the best part of 12 weeks now, ive figured its time to stick it together.

Ive got some tressels i plan to put the base on, i know in the book it has the dimensions of the surface, but what about the frame it recommends to strenghthen in. whats best to use?

Bit of a knob Q i know, but im not sure

I made the frame from 50mm x 75mm timber (make sure they are straight) then morticed and tenoned the joints, then glue and screwed every joint then glued and screwed the top on. I made the legs 50x75 as well.

I also used 50x75 timber for the frame, just screwed it together and then screwed the top sheet (I used 16 mm OSB) on. Fixing another sheet to the bottom of the frame might be a good idea, especially if you don't need to attach table legs but will use trestles instead.

I thought of that but would be a bugger if you want to use clamps ect.

I've had to drill some large holes this evening to do the seat belt braces and it would have been harder to fit if the base had a bottom.

I made my build table very similar to David,s, did a nice job of keeping everything level & true...
Tho if using trestles, maybe as the build progress,s the weight on the build table can get quite heavy so I would suggest a trestle at each corner & maybe one in the middle, tho it depends how much "fitting out" you do whilst still on the table.

A little tip.... mark out the base plan on the table with the bottom of the front frame at the leading edge of the table, comes in handy for clamping it down ;)

Used what comes naturally to a boilermaker...;)
Table was leveled and shim to within 0.5mm by dumpy level and chassis only cut loose after welding completed.

Chassis was built outside during our dry late spring season and is now residing in my garage whilst fitting out.
