Pinto & Automatic gearbox

Hi all I have found a donor but its an automatic, is there anything stoping me just changing it for a type9. The engine is a low milage 2.0ltr pinto (22,000) with all mot's

I don't see any parlicular reason as to why an auto model wouldn't be a good donor.

As you say, fit a type 9 manual box to the Pinto

The only thing that springs to mind is that you will most likely need to change the flywheel as well, the one from the auto will have a torque convertor bolted to it ( Not very likely that it would have been prepared to take a clutch assembly )

May be a minor mod to the throttle linkage as that will also incorperate the kick down cable, unless it is of the electronic type.

Possible that such a low mileage auto box & torque converter could be worth a few bob to the right person ;)
Who knows, might even pay for your manual conversion :)

I have a type9 box winging its way to me as payment for some welding on a mk2 Escort for a guy I work with. So it is do able with some small adjustments its a 2.0ltr with low mileage, I can hear it run and with it being automatic it wont have been thrashed.

It will have a flex plate, not a Fly.

You will probably need to fit a spigot bearing to the crank or the gearbox will die.

TT
