Rollbar Bolts

How long should the bolts be for RB1 & 2?

flyerncle 25th February 2011 10:24 PM

Any bolts used for any fitting should have enough length for a washer either side and enough thread through the locknut to be seen by Mr IVA.

For anything fitting the roll bar I used 10mm bolts,17mm spanner size and plated domed cap screws on the top plates and these are 12.9 tensile.

Do you know if the one's screwfix sells are 12.9?

Screwfix's HT BZP bolts and setscrews seem to be 8.8 but the Stainless ones are only 4.sumat as I found out when I bought some M10 x 25 for the caliper mounts. Still, they might come in handy somewhere in the build thats not too critical.

so where can I get stronger ones like 12.9's?

Think you'll need to ring a nut and bolt specialist, I use FR Scott in Hull
( 01482 324731 ), but don't know if they will post out, but they will sell individual pieces, not boxes of 100. Or you could try trawling around ebay, Dave.

They aren't really required, apparently the 8off 8.8 bolts that hold the roll bar on will be stronger than where the plate is welded to the chassis

Its always nice to slightly over engineer safety features if you wish though
