Oval Steering Column Mount on Sierra
Anybody have any idea what bolts/fixings are used for mounting the Oval Alloy Upper Steering Column bracket to the CP15 Plates. The reason I ask is the elongated holes on the CP15 plates are drilled to M13, but the Oval Bracket holes are wider ( 17mm ? ). Is there need for inserts of some kind which I'm missing. In the sierra manual it just shows two nuts holding the column.
Its a non adjustable column off an '88 Sapphire by the way, Dave. |
Took me a while to understand where you meant. I was wondering the same thing and was thinking of getting someone to turn me up 2x tophat type inserts for the bolts to pass through. If that makes sense.
I don't know if they are really needed but would put my mind at rest. |

Will have to have a look at one of the cars and find out. I considerd just making some ruber bushes. TT |
Looking in the sierra manual there is definatley something in there, possibly rubber? although the manual doesnt even mention it or show an exploded view.

One test at IVA is to grasp the steering wheel and pull, push, forward, backwards, side to side. This test that the mountings are secure.
I found some steel tube of the right outside diameter to fit the steering column mounts, drilled to take the bolts and bolted it all together with wide washers. Solid it is. |

So the general opinion seems to be that as long as it is some kind of hard rubber / steel bush it should be ok. With it being steering, I just wanted to be sure and I think you've all answered that OK, cheers, Dave.
