I4 2.0 DOHC question
 

Hi al, I have decided to fit the I4 engine over the zetec, I will save a bit on the bike carbs and megaspark. I have the I4 engine in my donor, it is a 1990 sierra ghia auto. I have removed the engine and the engine loom and was wondering if the loom for the engine is all that is needed from the donor car's wiring. I have another loom for my lights and other stuff. I noticed when I removed the loom, there were 3 plugs on the firewall connecting the engine loom to the main loom on ther car and I assume these are for starting etc. I also have the wiring diagrams from Dave so it shouldn't be too diffucult to work out the plug connections. Also, would the flywheel from the Zetec fit the I4 or would I need to source another flywheel?

Don't know about the flywheel but I tapped in to my engine loom at the point where the 3 plugs were originally. I found that on my car there was an imobiliser wire that caught me out, I could not get a spark without sorting that out. You need a live going to your coil, your ignition amp and your ecu. The wiring for the fuel pump is a bit weird, it's a while back now but I seem to remember that it is switched negative from the ecu so the other side of the relay coil needs to be taken to a switched live. Do not take it to permanant live otherwise it does not work correctly Those were the only things that caught me out, hope that helps.

Thanks for that Enoch, I have just fitted the flywheel from the Zetec, the bolt holes are the same. When you say ignition amp, is that the unit mounted under under the coil?

the pin outs of the plugs are on my website on an excell spreadsheet about fitting the 24V v6 in a sierra.

Hi All,
Just been told by a Ford mechanic the zetec flywheel is too deep for the starter to engage. I have 3 questions: 1. is this true?
2. which flywheel will fit I have seen this on fleabay

3. i found out there is a 5" and a 3.5" pinto starter would anybody have one for sale or a part number?.
