Modifying TR9?
 

This is possibly a silly idea...
...but is there any reason I couldn't remove the drivers side section of TR9 and weld in another section of tube in the same place, but about 2 inches lower?

The reason is, I'm using an MX5 steering column which is much fatter than the Sierra, so the steering wheel ends up being a bit on the high side.
If I lower that section of TR9 I can lower the wheel enough to see over it :rolleyes:
Unless anyone has any better ideas?

What about this:
Move the bearing above the chassis rails on groovy hangery thing and lower it the other end..this will have the column sitting flatter and aiming in the right direction. I'm a tad short(completely normal everyone else is the freak..:D ) and would be looking to do that if I was having my own 7.

Hmm, that might just work work.
Just had a look on the site I got my bearing from and they do a slightly different variant that looks like it would sit nicely on top of the chassis rail:

I spotted that one too, great minds, etc! Or I thought you could cut TR9 where the column need to be and simply weld it into the gap. TaDa!! Bit of a bodge maybe but I can't see how it matters although you lose the collapse abillity.

You must make sure you retain the ability for the column to collapse as this is an important IVA requirement.

Can you not dogleg TR9 around the column?

Dahh I thought that might me the case, maybe weld in SHS around the column in a diamond shape.
