scuttle scratches
I've just skinned the scuttle with aluminium and being a bit ham fisted have made a few scratches :o . My question is what's the best way to polish then out and leave a nice shiny finish?
Thanks in advance :) |
You will have to use a metal polishing compound.Best bet maybe would be to try something specifically for polishing mag wheels as it would probably be the least harsh.

autosol is not bad stuff but there is bound to be some fancy soap that polishers use, try Frost's who do car restoration goodies

If you manage to polish out the scratches and make it all shiney you might want to to give it a few coats of clear 2K over the top, when it gets wet it will have what looks like milk stains all over it.

autosol? if its not to deep but then you will need to do the lot to mirror finish :o

Thanks for the tips guys :)

If the scratches are deep you can take them out with 1200 wet and dry providing that the gel coat is deep enough and then polish. On the last kit i built i grabbed a small tub of gelcoat from the guy that did the laminating , most useful for damaged edges etc.

He is talking about an ally skin Rob,dont want to pee on the bonfire guys but I had a converstaion with another builder on this very subject and we agreed in the end that on a sunny day the reflection would be blinding.
If you want to coat it with laquer it may help to use something like plastic primer/adhesion promoter otherwise the laquer may not stick. Good luck |
I know its well ott but if funds ever allowed i would be guilty of this
