Which header tank

Hi guys, I'm now at the stage when I need to buy a header tank for my car but I have no clue which one to buy (rover, golf, corsa ect)
I want to mount by the nose cone and I've seen that some people are using one from a corsa. I realise the cap pressure would be wrong (pinto) so can I just stick the cap off the sierra tank onto it, or would it be the wrong thread?

Hopefully someone can help as I'm more confused than when I started looking.
Cheers

I used a spherical VAG header tank off some Škoda. Apparently, similar ones were used in Passats and many other VAG cars. You can get a new one for ~10 quid. I didn't pay too much attention to the pressure cap, but they are standard service items, available in a range of pressures, I'm sure.

cap pressure is not an issue if using the same cap for the bottle it came with, the cap pressure affects boiling point, some ford systems run at 20 psi and more in some jap cars.

It does not look pretty but the one I fitted to the Teamtrain Saturn race car was from the G20 donor car and square ally fitted with old ford yellow cap on the bulkhead as high as possible to get rid of the air.

The fluid level in the tank is several centimetres above the vent point on the thermostat housing, which should be the highest point of water in the engine.
So it should be fine, I think.

I,m intrigued

Why fit the header tank under the nose ?

My thoughts are ......once the nose is on its then very difficult to remove the cap & top up ,

For this reason I have fitted the original Sierra header tank on the scuttle bulkhead panel, its high up & easy to get to ......or am I missing something ?

heres mine below

Andy: I'm, if possible going to have the cap sticking out from under the nose, so it should be easy to fill. It will also reduce the length of the hoses around the engine bay.

I just need to find a cheap supplier of t's, cheapest I've found on eBay is £16 for an alloy one

I've ended up buying a Corsa tank and hopefully it will be here soon.

Fairly sure Spud put his under the nosecone,I would place it on the nearside bulkhead,if it boils at speed you will get covered in hot water/antifreeze.

Steve.......Ah, ok then I see your point :) , I must admit that installing the hoses to mine was a bit of faff on but it seems to work once it was all done .

In all honesty the reason I positioned mine where I did was after seeing Spud,s setup which is under the N/S of the nose & seeing how difficult it appeared to get at ( sorry Spud :p ) & also I tried to get my header tank as high as possible :)

cheers

header tank

i thought about putting mine under the nose but thought against it as it would be a nightmare to fill close to exhaust etc also on mine i dont think it would be high enough i made an alloy one and got a weld on neck from car builders solutions (£10) to accept a push and twist style rad cap (like pinto powered mk 2 escorts, cortina etc have) i have a pic on my photos of the tank in position i then simply used 22mm copper pipe to bend round the engine bay to the rad i painted it black and have soldered olives on the end so the pipes would not blow off looks fairly neat if i do say so myself
