Ground clearance
What is the minimum clearance for the sump on a roadster. I have gone for the engine sump sitting 4cm under the chassis rails after reading a few posts on here. When I looked at the ride height that some people use 10cm front and 15 cm rear this will make it very close to the ground. I plan on having my suspension set fairly hard most of the time so will this cause a problem. I am tryin to ensure that top of the engine will not interfere with the bonnet.
Thanks David |
I don't have a roadster, but on my McSorley 442E chassis the engine sump is 5mm above the bottom rail bottom. The car is set 140mm off the road due to speed humps all over my town:mad:

Many have used 4 in chassis to floor at the front and 5 1/2 in chassis to floor at the rear.

Do their sumps stick out 4cm. That only gives 6cm Clearance

Hi David,
We've set our engines with the sump 40mm below the bottom rail as well. As above 100mm front and 150mm rear seems to be the norm. If you are worried about clearance you could always fit a sump guard for protection, I might do this yet. Johno |
Thanks . Puts my mind at rest a bit lol!

Here's a curious thread on PistonHeads about the issue. Educational!

Yep fit a sump guard of some sort or modify the cast ally one. Or drive slow over bumps.

I will put my c spanner in the boot incase I come across some rough road when I got out for a drive!!
