Rear uprights
Hi does anyone know why RU8 is the shape it is
|
I would hazard a guess that it's this way to save the effort on cutting. RU7 is round, because it goes into the tube, and the hole is round , because the round UJ has to pass through it, but the outside shape of RU8 is a nice envelope of the 4 threaded bearing mounting holes made out of 6 straight lines so it's easier to make. Also, it allows you to weld RU8 straight to RU7 in the 4 places where RU7 is not covered.

Hi thanks for the info. I understand that but I have placed the hubs over some 5" billet I intend to use and they would fit with just a small overhang. This would save a lot of time and money not having to have the profiling done or welding. All comments appreciated

I can't see it being a problem at all as long as there is enough material to put a good weld on.I have seen one supplier on ebay I think who makes them as you mention as its probably cheaper and easier.
