The only reason to remove the hub nuts is if you are intending to renew the hub bearings.

To remove the driveshafts from the diff all you need do is undo the brake drum backing plate & the driveshaft carrier from the hub, then the driveshafts will pull away from the diff, or if you have bolt in shafts you then just undo the bolts at the diff end & the shaft is then free.
