No need to worry about cocking up - I made my new alternator mount up tonight. Spent ages getting it all setup and tacked - only to then offer it up to the engine and find I'd welded the backplate on back to front
Quick un-tacking with the chisel and all is now well. Just need to finish weld and take a lunch-time trip to Halfords tomo to get a fan belt.
