Default Hello - New builder - hopefully

Hi all,

Just thought that I would say hi and introduce myself, before asking loads of potentially silly questions.

I have been thinking about building a Haynes Roadster for a long time now ( lurking for ages - over a year) and just generally following the threads whilst working out how and what I want to do.

I am currently a (self funding) student at Loughborough (not an engineering student though), so the main hurdles to me actually starting was funding to buy a complete chassis and all of the components, as I am not a welder by any means (although I have done a course), and I generally like to have everything necessary to pretty much finish a job before starting.

However I have decided that this approach is quite impractical and if I don't take the plunge and get on with it (i.e. learn to weld a chassis for myself), I am simply just going to continue dreaming - or finding excuses not to start. Plus having a challenge is half of the enjoyment anyway (I dare say I will be reminded of that in the future!!).

I realise I am still going to have to pay out loads (Certainly £250 is not achievable these days - even 10x - 15x that amount is going to be interesting )

But it is not all doom and gloom - far from it

I have most of the donor car bits (been hoarding for a while) and whilst I am at university, I also have the benefit of having access to loads of cool equipment, so this should make it more achievable - I hope.

But advice is going to be the main thing I guess I will need (particularly as I am not an engineering student - more of an enthusiast), and the one thing I have noticed whilst lurking is that this seems to be a very friendly forum, one which I hope to become more involved in.

Anyway .... enough from me ..... until the questions get going

Jonathan
