Good question Ray,

I have the same tank as you, sitting upright so the fuel outlet is at the bottom on the passenger side...........
I,ve fully fitted my rear tub ( GRP ) & I have 10mm between the tub & the tank.

The way I see it , this tank is in the same place as per the "Book" tank, only difference being it stands up a bit taller.
I think most "7" style cars have the tank in the same place, unless a fabricated tank is made to sit above the diff.

Spud,s car has a "book" tank & passed SVA no probs with it.

Thats my take on it anyhows.
