call or e-mail the the log book peoples, they should be able to tell you everything you need to know about that particular engine (even of its been stolen!
i had a classic mini a couple of years ago, bought it off a friend and when i enquired about the log book it turned out to have been "disposed of" (crushed)
apparently not!
