I remember the first ever engine swap I did back in ~1998 on my Bro's Sierra. It had developed a masive smoking habit so we got a S/H 1.8 for £399

. Hired a crane, took a day to pull it and fire in the replacement and by close of play it would not start...

... half the street had been by and commented on our efforts...
Next day spent a couple of hours with no joy. Cleaned the plugs, aired the cylinders.. and eventually she spluttered into life and ran... I ran up and down the street whooping and shouting and waving at all the neighbors..
That engine went into my last sapphire after 2 years (note to self, must have another sapph).
We stripped down the failed engine and found a crack on number 4 piston from one side of the skirt through the small end journal and half way across the crown. still got the piston!
