Very ture, however a flexable chassis can lead to premature component failure of parts fixed to the chassis since as the chassis flexes they are exposed to stresses that they were not designed for. as you very corectly said on a race car were every gram counts and parts are shaved to a minimum then this can by crytical however on our cars this is very unlightly to be a problem due to the material thinkness and size of components spec'd in the design. it is possibe to build a far lighter stiffer chassis however i would not fancy using it on the road.
