I remember Kev talking about this issue after his IVA test. I had a soldered end before, but was not happy with it.

I don't know if these bicycle "cable stops" (I don't know how to call them in English, sorry, but you can see what it is) are acceptable for UK's IVA. But it works very well, the diameter is just a bit smaller than the hole in the hand brake lever, and this bit fits perfectly. For my first inspection, hand brake has to be operable, and it works very well with this
