haw much can you get away with? the book says 25mm but could i go to 30mm or maybe even 40? 50? or would that be ridicules and foolish? i understand that the lower you go the moor chance you have of tacking the sump of unexpectedly but i am looking at all the different ways i can grab 5 or 10 mm hear and there to lower the hight of my engine.

dave yours cant be 40mm mine is only 25mm below and you reckoned that my sump was lower than yours. in an ideal world 100-120mm between the sump and the floor is comfortable. my sump is 110mm off the floor.

likewise to Ash, my engine is 25mm below the bottom chassis rail, well in fact not the engine but the bottom of the bellhousing sits 25mm below , the base of my sump is actually level with the bottom of the lower chassis rail.

			 You're dead right....

My engine is now out and the gearbox is just resting on blocks, still in the car. So possibility I got it wrong. Ash can you do me a favor and measure the distance from the Bell housing to the chassis. I think my sump was slightly higher than than the Bell housing. I'm just looking at remaking the engine mounts. I know I know, I should have measured it before I took it out... David

my sump is about 2-3mm higher than my bell housing. when i choped it i thought it was pointless taking it any higher.
