Default Im back! But with a problem!

I'm finally back now, after finishing uni, going on holiday and starting my job at Triumph Motorcycles. I moved into my house on saturday and I have the garage all to myself and I can actually stand up properly in all parts which is definitely a good thing.

I have brought the majority of my car bits up, just need to bring the engine, pillar drill, gear box etc down.

However, my 1 big issue is the chassis. It is too wide to fit on my roof rack, and the roof rack has a too narrow spacing to line up with the bottom chassis members.

The engine, gearbox and pillar drill are the easy things to get down as I can fit them in the back of my car, so I am now trying to figure out a way of getting the chassis (and build table) the 200 miles to my new house.

I have considered hiring a van with a roof rack (roughly £60 + fuel to get it there (£60) and back and then the £45 fuel to get my car to and from there). So thats £165 for that option.

Then i've considered getting a tow bar fitted to my car and doing my B+E trailer licence, which works out at around £500 for test, lessons and tow bar. The army will be paying for me to get my C+E licence later on this year so I dont really want to spent £500 when I don't need to.

The other option is courier, which I haven't looked at prices but I can imagine it being rather expensive.

So does anyone else have an idea of how to transport my chassis down south?

Fasten 2 long 50mmx50mm wooden beams to the roof rack, then fasten the chassis to them.

Should work as long as everthing is secure.

Best bit so far: Getting it running
Worst bit so far: Cutting steel for wishbones and engine mounts.
Most annoying bit so far: Generator packing up half way through welding.

Hi Tatey, long time no see...

I,m not sure where your new home is?

But I,d be happy to transport it all in my van ( Chassis on the top of my commercial quality roof rack), might as well put everything in the van, save spoiling the nice interior of your car with an engine etc,

Just cover the fuel cost for the round trip.......& maybe a coffee en route

let me know if that would help you out.

cheers
andy

Andy that sounds great to me! How much do you think the round cost in fuel will be (just so I dont end up spending it on beer )?

My new house is in Hinckley, which is 45 mins south of Nottingham, and is a 3 hour 30 min drive from my house in Northumberland.

You'll honestly be doing me a huge favour Andy.

It's definitely been too long since I've posted on this forum, and I'm very eager to get back into the kit car game.

I've discovered that my seats for the car make very comfy living room seats (ah the student life style lol).

No problem mate, happy to help if I can,

erm, not sure on cost/mileage

I,ll leave it to you to work out the mileage from
my home to your northern home,
your northern home to Hinckley home,
Hinckley home to my home.

My van does approx 30 miles per gallon.

Any idea when you,d like to shift the chassis?

Enoch..... blushes........ just happy to help a fellow builder....plus its my build table too ... Thanks tho mate.

cheers

As soon as possible really Andy, it would need to be a weekend though, I would happily drive home this Friday and we take it all down Saturday afternoon? Unless that's too soon for you?

I'll do the numbers and make sure you have the money in your bank account before we move all of the stuff.
