Default Saturn MX5 Build

Hi,
Been looking at making the jigs for the wishbones today, so I decided to draw them on Autocad before I built them. The problem I have is the drawings on downloadable PDF from the Satrurn web page don't seem to work out..
So far the information for the chassis build has been excellent and I can't commend them enough for what they have done. So am I reading the drawings incorrect or is there an error on the pages?
I don't want to order any laser cut parts or jig anything untill I'm a 100% sure as you can understand.
Also when I took a peek at their photos for the wishbones they seem to be different to the drawings as well.
Is there anybody who can help?

Ps.... I will admit I marked 25mm for the T/Tunnel but I was having a bad day...

Thanks Johno...

Default Wishbone probs....

Hi Talon,
Well I started drawing the front lower wishbone jig today and have the following problems.

1, The position of the hole in the lower wishbone ball joint plate has no measurement from the end of the plate or how much the plate angles up.
2, The front lower wishbone plate has no measurement for the hole from the edge of the plate or diameter.
3, No measurement from the centre of the ball joint hole to end of threaded inserts or how long the inserts are.

If you study the drawing and photos of the wishbone in the jig on their website the two are not the same. Look carefully at the angled tubes you will see in the drawing they fall short of the inner wishbone plate yet on the photo the plate falls short of the tubes.
The jig has been altered to the drawing so I am really confused now.

Basically I tried drawing the wishbone and the jig and they didn't marry up.
Not yet looked at the other wishbones in case I'm being thick or something.

I know its critical to get these right so I've left them alone for the moment until I get advice. I was wandering if anybody else had the same problem and how they got over it.

Thanks for your interest Talon could you help?

Johno

The best thing to do is to speak to Andy (spud69) directly.

Hi Johno,

Got your PM, i need your e-mail address so that i can send the skechtup drawings for the bones and jigs. I'll look at the drawings tonight just to make sure. Need to concentrate on the single seater at the moment but will make sure these drawings are correct at the same time. One thing that may need to be changed is the front upper as the transit drag link has a larger taper than the mx5 upright, in the past builders have reamed out the taper on the upright but there is a more suitable drag link but it is threaded M14 x 1.5mm so need to decide which is the better option.

Johno
I see what you mean regarding the drawings and dims John, they dont have enough dims to follow 100%. When you've already made the jigs and wishbones yourself it's too easy to assume too much when putting them down into drawings. I'll do a bit of work to clarify them a bit.

I also didn't attach the cutting list that i have so will attach that to the pdf file to. Don't forget to send me your e-mail address to.

That's great to hear Johno, the more roadsters the better and you're cracking on with it. If you're ever in the North East then you know where to call in.

Thanks for the feedback on our car, i've been debating for the last few weeks what to upgrade the engine to - S2000 or Hyabusa. After hearing the Fireblade engine fire up in the Single Seater it's got to be the Hyabusa - sounds fast without even moving.......

All the Best......AndyH
