Default xp duel boot? x64?

any pc bods here help me
i have win7 64 on my laptop and cant run xp mode with my cpu so was planing on going down the duel boot road so i can run some 16bit programing software and ecu bits and bobs.

can i still get legal xp copys and what version will i need i see there was a late xp pro x64? or will any old 32bit work for what i want?

Can you use a virtual machine like virtualbox instead of dual booting.

You may possibly find an old legal copy of XP somwhere for sale.

don't go xp64-bit there are sod all drivers for it.

i have tried vurtual machines before and its a pain to set up shared drives and hardware shareing
