Windscreens mirrors mounts?

Now that I have my scuttle blank to play with I've been looking in to companies to make windscreens for me, turns out theres one not a million miles away that was approched by Caterham. They have done all the hard work not so long ago but where rejected on price but a right result never the less. For a reasonable price but not cheap they would be able to supply a fully kite marked and therefore an IVA approved sealed unit ready to fit.
What I'm currently looking in to is having the screen side mounts cast in either GRP or epoxy resin and having the mirror mounts incorporated in to them much like Westfield do. How ever this would mean that your choice of mirror would be limited by the mounting points.
I'm around 6-8 weeks from being able to make a working prototype but I'm hoping to be able to sell it as a complete kit that would just need a wiper mech. bolting straight on which I'm 80% sorted with.

On a side note, would you need to have windscreen wipers to pass mot ? Note that is Mot not IVA.

Don't quote me on it but is that one of those 'if its not there, I cant fail it' situations. I know my mate who is an mot tester failed a lorry which came in with a cracked windscreen, so the driver went into the car park, stuck his foot against the screen and removed it.....they had no choice but to pass it!

Yes you would need wipers and washer jets that clear the screen if the screen is fitted to pass an MOT. The wiper mech. that I have in mind should be a direct bolt on part so no need to shorten linkages and should be a simple bolt together process.

Would the screen mounts be separate to the scuttle itself? I've heard elsewhere that it's easier to pass IVA without the screen, then fit it afterwards...

There are two schools of thought here about windscreens,rollbars,roll cages etc. One is if it is not fitted it can't be tested and therefore should be an easier process to gain a pass, the other is spend the time building the car pre IVA as you want it and if it's correct from the start it should go through hence why the screens will be kite marked as standard.
If you buy a plain scuttle to pass the IVA then decide you want to fit a screen then you would have to buy the other scuttle and the screen kit so in the long run it will cost you more in parts. The screen mounts will be separate to the screen but it's the sub frame that will be bonded in place that will be the difference between the two, due to the demister vents and the direct bolt on wiper mech. that I have in mind I would prefer to supply a product that is pre jigged to fit rather have people struggle to make it work and disappointed with it.

Could I buy the 'screen kit and scuttle' but only fit the scuttle before IVA - then do the rest once it was IVA'd? Or would i then have nowhere to hang my mirrors?

If the windscreen opens you dont need wipers

Another thought and more hassle,if you need de-misters you need a heater if you fit a screen.
