I Want To CRY!!!
I just spent two evenings making my tank out of ali. got it all spot on and welded up and pressure tested it. everything was perfect on with no leakes. then i cocked up. i turned the pressure valve on the compressor the wrong way and it pushed out the sides of the tank which cracked the spot welds on the baffle in the middle. so i now have a nice fuel tight tank but the baffle is flapping around inside. grrrrr.
i dont have the time or energy to chop it open and sort it out. does anyone remember the name of that bloke that makes them? or have any contacts that can make me one? Cheers Ash this is the one i made. the ali welding isnt visually perfect but it was fuel tight :-( |

sorry to hear of your mishap Ash,
but as you,re probably feeling pee,d off at the mo, give yourself a break from the tank until the weekend then just cut the end panel off & re spot the baffle, if you have made that tank in 2 evenings then i reckon you could have the repair done in 2 hrs, once you,ve cleared your head of the frustration. maybe thats not what you want to hear right now but give it a go mate, thats a nice tank, take a deep breath & sort it over the weekend. i know time is tight too but you CAN do it . cheers andy

Gutted for you Ash,
Bloke on LCB is called "Deneo" Apparently send him a drawing of what you want, and he will make it!

andy i would normally hack it open and tig it back up but i have run out of argon and dont really want to get a fresh bottle as i wont use it up and dont want to pay the rental on it. i am also low on ali rods and dont want to spend money on a whole pack that i wont use.

What a Bummer
Devestated for you Ash
Perhaps a locost option would be to use a small spot weld drill & plug weld the baffle back in place. I know you have run out of Argon, perhaps there is someone local who can do a couple of plug welds for you ?? Hope you get it sorted

i can do that ronnie but the problem is getting the baffle back in the right place as there is very little space to get any tools into the tank to put it back.
im kicking myself now because i knew i should of welded it properly rather than spot welding it. i dont know anyone local that has an ac tig. normally people come round to use mine lol |

I didn't realise that the baffle had come away completely
Just wish I was in a position to help Ash. Got Argon, got filler rods but 400 miles away ain't a lot of help If only we had the benefit of hindsight
