Opinions on side indicators please
I,m about to fit my side repeaters, I have waited till I fitted my mirrors..done today.
So............ I know some builders have had problems at IVA with the side indicators not being visible from the tested angles when fitted to the scuttle etc, I,ve seen cars with the indicators fitted to the rear wing to overcome this problem, personally I,m not keen on them being in the wings but understand the reason they are there. My questions..... 1)will I get a fail for just having them on the scuttle ( can get them high up). 2) should I just follow the easy route & fit to the rear arches ( as said, not keen) 3) is it permissable to have 2 sets? on scuttle & on rear wings ( that might fall off in the future ) your thoughts/opinions gratefully welcomed. cheers andy |

Hi Andy, I could not see anything in the IVA manual that sets a limit on the number of lights you can have. I will be putting mine on the outer edge of the front cycle wings, my repeaters have a fantastic viewing angle so I don't think the 5 degree rule will be a problem. I will be fitting my repeaters at the top most part of the cycle wind edge.
I would not be keen on them being fitted to the rear wings as they will leave a hole when they "fall off", as I understand these things have a habit of doing Enoch |

I,m quite happy to have them high up on the scuttle only, being honest that is my preference, I,ve fitted both side mirrors & the center mirror ( car looks sooooo different with them on ), then trial fitted my aero screen & have worked out that the side repeaters would fit nicely just at the tip of the aeroscreen on the scuttle & still be quite high so hopefully they would pass the IVA angle tests. I,d rather not fit lights to the rear wings, & the mirrors I have I can,t gain access behind the glass ( without risk of cracking it) to fit into the mirror cowl. cheers andy |

i cant remember your mirrors andy but my thoughts for the future are to buy some cheap led indicators and run a pair of wires through the scuttle into the mirror and mount the little blinkers to the outer edge of the mirror.
I cant remember off hand but i'm sure something is said about have 2 set of side repeaters. Well done on your insurance..... Just need a V5 now

Why not fit them to the front arches, looks ok and will pass IVA. Those LED units from Kit Parts Direct (approx £11 posted) are ideal
If you've already fitted scuttle repeaters, just disconnect the wiring and take out the bulbs, and they won't count as repeaters (just orange hole fillers) |

Thanks for taking the time to read up on the IVA manual Dave I,ll have a look at Ash,s build photo,s & see if I can get them at the same height on the scuttle, I just don,t like the idea of them in the rear wings, even if just for the test, as it seems silly to me that just to pass the IVA test they need fitting in the rear wings.........think about when waiting at a T junction......The Roadster is a long car so by the time a car see,s my side repeaters 3/4 of my car would be across the "give way" line etc I suppose the answer to that is fitting them to the front wings Spud..... as for the insurance.....I like a bargain tho as Mark says " it helps being old LOL. cheers andy |

Are they side repeaters from a car, cant remember who but someone used led side markers for a commercial vehicle and failed as they cannot be seen from the rear,
My 2p's worth,high up the scuttle.

Thanks Mr H, yes, as you say, the front wings might be another option, tho I,d prefer them on the scuttle .

Just had a read through the iva manual.
It says number required, front 1, side 1, rear 1, optional 2 (rear only) So if i was you, i'd do as mentioned above, have your wires ready in the scuttle, then have them wired to the rear wing for IVA (2600 from the front of the car maximum)
