Size (It matters)
Hi all. Newbie here.
My wife, bless her, bought me the Build Your Own etc book for Christmas and I am seriously (there's far too much money in the bank anyway) considering it. It has been an ambition for years and I now find myself in a position to do it. My question is this; I am 6'4", and 18 stone. Will I build this only to find I cant sit in it? Is it feasible to build a "wide bodied" version? Not to mention a "long bodied" version to go with my wide and long body. When I say "My Question" what I really mean is the first of probably a long procession of stupid and boring questions. I apologize now. |

Im 6ft 4 too and was well into the gym when i finished mine and was about 17stone, I found it a little tight but do have moulded fibreglass seats Ok length wise though Only about 16 stone now and fit like a glove, maybe with the right seat you will be ok, try and meet up with someone and get a sit in one |

Set up a couple of bits of ply 400mm apart and if you can squeeze your butt in and out of that space without the use a hiab you will fit. Leg room is not a problem.

I'm 6'4'' and a bit less in weight but not to much, for now at least.
With a small wheel as knees tend to be the problem you should be fine. I found out on my last build, when i bought the moulded fibre glass seat I could fit in them just and they where snug but they were only ok if my legs were together and straight but found I couldn't position my legs apart to fit either side of the wheel like us lanky buggers have to so in the end they where no good even if I can actually get my butt in them. This build I 'm looking for seats that dont have "sides" around my butt. Lotus elise ones look perfect but are aparantly not a comfy seat, Some padded ones look good in this respect but dont' get you as far back in the car as pure FG ones. In short you should be fine just be careful what seats you get. In my friends caterham racer we don't have a seat just moulded expanding foam, not sure it would be IVA compliant though.
