Hi all,
i trial fitted the engine and gearbox today to see where the mounts would go but i'm not too sure on how far back or how high the engine should sit. it's a 1600 crossflow and a type 9 gearbox any comments welcome... http://s1056.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=0 http://s1056.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=1 http://s1056.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=2 http://s1056.beta.photobucket.com/us...tml?sort=3&o=4

Ben get 2 boxes of course scotch bright , a gallon of acetone, a good 3M mask and some etch primer before Christmas or the only place that chassis will be going is the same place as your first one!

Very true I am less diplomatic these days but I'm fed up with 'pussy footing' around affraid of upsetting people so I'm saying it as it is from now on.
This is a spade there it is a spade!

Cheers Phil...
Firstly, this is my first chassis, not sure where you got that info from secondly, it's being shot blasted and painted on thursday thirdly, i was asking about my engine and gearbox placement, not the state of my engine. not all of us can build their chassis fast enough so that the rust doesn't set in but hey, saying it like it is.

Large toffee pop corn and a coke please? oh sorry not aimed at me....
Sorry Ben I know what I've done now, I've got you confused with another builder in Guildford that I supplied a full chassis and wishbone package to who started a Handy flat pack then changed direction, I think I just sold you wishbones uprights and polybushes? A little tip to any body who I hav'nt yet offended is clean the chassis tubing as soon as possible and get a thin coat of primer on it before the surface rust sets in other wise it becomes a mission to fight the rust rash by hand. Put the gear stick where it's easy to reach and see where the edge of the gearbox bell housing comes in relation to TR8, in an ideal world you don't want the sump lower than the chassis rails but if it has to not much more than 25-30mm just to be safe. I'll keep quiet now...

Just move the gearbox backwards while these constraints are satisfied. My bellhousing mounting flange is about 5.5 cm into the engine bay, but I have the Zetec thermostat housing protruding from the back of the head.
