Argh !!
Whilst trying to locate the dipstick I accidentally dropped a length of copper pipe into the sump. Question is, do I have to split the gearbox from the engine to remove the sump ? Its a CVH.

That is a real downer Peter
No, you shouldn't have to remove the gearbox from a CVH engine to get the sump off Just remove the dust shied for the lower part of the bellhousing & the sump shoud come away without any problem.

Brill Ronnie
I assume that I take the bolts out from between the bellhousing and the engine and slide the plate up to get at the 2 small bolts. Cheers Peter |

Yes Peter, just remove the dust cover retaining bolts, cant remember if it is just the 2 bolts or 3.
Once unbolted you should be able to jiggle the cover a little & remove it out of the way. You should then be able to get to the 2 tricky bolts at the rear of the sump, normally I use my long 1/4" drive extension bars to get to those ( Quite awkward to get to ) Easy to do once you get the knack

Now don't go dropping anything in there again Some muppett sitting at this keyboard once dropped a M6 nut into an uncovered inlet manifold once .... Yep, that inlet valve was fully open If I had half a brain back then, I would have backed the engine off a bit & tried to remove it with a magnetic pick up stick !!?? Done it the hard way & removed the head
