Fuel pipes
Does anyone know if the fuel pipe(s) must be proud of the chassis/body as per the brake pipes or are they allowed to touch ?

As long as they are firmly P clipped at the required intervals there will be no problem

Personally, I have kept all my fuel rails away from anything so that they only ever touch the p clips (or hose at the ends ) in the same way you do with brake pipes. My logic behind this was that in use the pipes will vibrate and if they touch anything like the edge of a tube they will start to 'wear' through as they do.

Use copper pipe as much as you can to keep them rigid then where they are close to any projections, eg chassis rails either end of tunnel, sleeve the copper pipe with some of the rubber hose you'll be using at each end. Will do the job fine.
