Accelerator cable attach point
Hi everyone,
I don't have my clutch and accelerator cables yet, but I'm working on the pedal box, and I was wondering how the accelerator cable is attached to the accelerator pedal, using this 6,5mm diameter hole? I understood that the Capri clutch cable has an eyed end, (btw, can anybody tell me the diameter of the hole please?), and should be attached to the pedal by a bolt, but what about the accelerator cable? Pictures are welcome too! Thank you very much for your answers. Sylvain

The Capri clutch cable is ideal it has an 8mm hole in that can simply be bolted to the pedal I used a small piece of tube on the engine bay side to push fit the white plastic thingy into I cut the nipple off the sierra accelerator pedal and welded to the new pedal I can now use the original sierra accelerator cable I simple welded a washer to a piece of tube for the cables bulkhead gromit to push into on the engine bay side I think you can see the pedal box on my Flickr account link below

My accelerator cable goes through a short piece of tube welded into the bulkhead by the pedal and pushes against a washer on the threaded part of the cable to set the tension. This is ok normally when the cable is under any tension but worries me that if the cable gets slack the end of the threaded part can drop out of the end of the tube and then catch on it- this could happen if the pedal is floored and released quickly. Ive limited this to a certain extent by using cable ties to restrict the movement of the outer cable but i will be fabricating a light bracket to hold the threaded section of the outer cable tight up to the bulkhead tube that can be readilly unbolted in case the cable needs to be adjusted or replaced.

I'm going to make a clevis (similar to radio control clevises)

Thank you Kev. I thought about it too, but how will you attach the cable end to the clevis? Actually, what I don't know is how the end of the Sierra accelerator cable looks like (pedal side). I tried to find pictures on Google, but it looks like there are different models. How is yours ?

Small correction on this one for anybody who will read this thread: the Ford Capri clutch cable eye is 6mm and not 8mm. As I drilled my pedal before having the cable (my mistake ), I now have a 8mm hole to fit the 6mm eye... don't know how I'll sort this out... any ideas?

Hi Sylvain.....weld up hole grind back and re-drill to correct size

Now the pedal are painted, I'm going to waste everything if I try to weld the holes now . But thank you for the advice.
But I I have an idea : you see the crimped collars ("ferules") of my brake lines? They have a 6mm inside diam and a 8mm outside diam, with a small flange, so I will cut 2 of them 10mm long, and use them as hat-spacers on each side of the pedal shaft
