Zetec engine identification
Last week I picked up a zetec engine from a 2001 focus (supposedly 2.0)
I didn't think of looking on the side of the block to confirm as the car that its from comes up as a 2.0 when searching for parts etc with the reg. I have just looked at the side of the block for the engine number which I can't seem to find and the large number on the side is 18 so i'm guessing it must be a 1.8. I can't quite understand this, I don't mind if it is a 1.8 but why would this happen??? Mabey the owner trashed the 2.0 engine and as 1.8's were cheaper they swapped for 1.8??? I have the ecu and most of the loom. Would it have been a straight swap to change the engine and ecu? Any ideas? |

There's a chance it's the original ECU. Since it meters off the MAF, it could have adjusted sufficiently for the different engine displacement. If you're swapping it, keep in mind you'll need to swap the immobilizer bits, too.
There's a four letter code on the ECU, like DESK here: https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/i...HDwvkvR_VxAOgA. Trawl the web for it and find out what car it comes from.

Mondeo Zetecs have the "2.0" behind the exh manifold, look at Zetec inside website for more info and there are many zetec sites for info.
Ford parts Dunston are a good source of info. Engine code is also good source of info. Stick a Pinto in pre IVA and change it after .

No I didn't actually see it being removed but contacted the guy I got it from but he was just breaking the car so wouldn't know if it had been swapped.
It must be 1.8 as it has the large stamp on side. Will try clean up where the engine number should be and get some pictures |
