I think 7ish in NZ had a very effective and neat setup which i think you will find link to his blog if you do a search on forum.A few others here have done similar,maybe quick search reverse or bike engine etc.

http://www.chaindrivediff.com/ neat chain driven diffs aswell as lecy reverse for bike engined toys.......damn fine bloke too

Works quite well but you will need to fabricate all your own brackets Rob

you can get a gear and motor from one of the kit manufactures
it was a small gear that pinched inbetween prop and diff flange wit what looked like a fiat starter motor thay where at stonleigh in same hall as satern in the top r/h corner MNR i think but not too sure
