Build Diary Thread/Ordering Steel??
Hi,
Last week I found a thread either on here or on the locost forum that listed a number of build diaries, one of them had an excel sheet which calculated the amount of steel needed to be ordered to build a haynes roadster. Can anyone link me this thread as I can't find it now or help with amounts of steel needed to be ordered? Many Thanks Chris

Adrians list is very good,
 I tend to order 6 lengths of the 25mm tube & 3 lengths of 19mm tube per chassis kit, tho this does leave me with a little spare as the tubes are supplied in 7.5mtr lengths so it depends on the length supplied ( if that makes sense  )A little spare left over steel comes in handy for making dummy shocks etc . cheers andy

Adrian, it was your build I was looking at thanks for quick response really handy info there! So I will be getting 6 meter lengths so will need 7 x 6 meter lengths of 25 SHS 2mm thick Walls and 3 x 6 meter lengths of 20mm SHS 2mm thick walls. The book says 19mm and 16swg but 16swg is only 1.5mm thick and the coompany supplying says 19mm is called 20mm, I assume this is the metric euro size. Will this be ok? Oh and it does have to be seamless, correct? Thanks Andy for your info too!

19mm is 3/4inch in old money.Doesnt really make a lot of difference 19mm/20mm just depends on supplier.42m of 25x25x2 will be enough for any cockups etc (sorry mistakes
 ).ERW,Seamless,SHS again all have a seam on the inside so wouldnt worry too much.ERW does have a squarer edge though.CTWV50 put your location in your profile as it may help in future. Last edited by ozzy1 : 7th April 2011 at 06:51 PM.

SHS/HRS is known as black and is a crap material to work with. It has very rounded edges which means blades tend to side along it till they bite and comes covered in black graphite type oil which gets every where. Spend alittle more on ERW 25x25x2mm or 1"x1"x14gauge I ordered some on wednesday it was £12 a length 6mtr nominal.
