Default back brake drums q?

what way round we putting the brake drum back plates?
im sure the sierra had the cable in from the front but looking at my car it looks better to swap the back plates side to side so the cable comes in from the back to alow a better cable route as there is not much room
also i cant see any problem in swaping them over
what or where is the cable route sposed to go? and whats the crack with mounts and supports for it?

They do need to go in the right way round because the brake linings are built with a leading and trailing edge which brings on a self servo effect. I dont think you want to dial that out. Mind you that may be a bonus on a haynes!!!!!!!

Hanbrake cables normally come into the bottom of backplates and look forward but thats most things dont know for sure on the sierra.

but there single leading shoe type so only one shoe is leading
i know what you mean about linings but my shoes i have are the same with lining thickness and postioning

This has been done before and I agree with Bob they need to go on the right way round or you may have problems.
Dont forget the handbrake works from them.
There should be a plate above the diff with two holes in and a slot in each to mount the cable that will also need shortening.

When I put mine on, the easiest way I found to check they where on the right way round so to speak was that the hole for the handbrake should be on the engine side vs back end of car if that makes sense and the handbrake should come in from behind so that the little lever / arm that's the handbrake part of the shoe assembly rests against the rubber bit on the oppisite side.
