Engine Hoist design

Im toying with the idea of building an engine hoist at work. I don't really need one at the moment but have plenty of time and material so thought i may as well.

I'm thinking along the lines of an A Frame gantry on wheels that fits over the width of the car. one that comes apart with corner joints holding a box 25x25x25 shs frame together with a 50mm tube for the crossbar.

Has anyone got any links to anything similar for me to look at. i have had a Google but not really found anything like what i have in mind.

Also how high should i make it above the build table and top of chassis?
my shed roof may be the limiting factor on that one though!

Hmm I'm thinking that's a lot of time and energy detoured away from actual building? I'm as frugal as anyone :-) I bought mine new, it folds up.. sort of. Not overly expensive at $150 and surely there are Used ones about.
I'm assuming $75 would be a fair price to pay for one?
Tough to justify DIY as time and materials Will cost more.. the Hyd Ram will.

I personaly would consider looking on ebay at second hand engine cranes. They are purpose made for the job and if your lucky can be had for under £100. 25x25 box is nowhere strong enough to go swinging 60-120kg worth of engine and gearbox about, the least I'd go for 40x40x4-5mm or 80x40x3mm.

We use these and i dont think that you can beat them. I think like phil said that 25mm box is on the lean side but you wont regret having one. We have a project in the workshop now that has a dirty great 6 pot diesel hanging off our a frame via a block and tackle, its been hanging in that position for over a week while we work out mounts,pipes ect. If that was hydraulic it would have kept sinking.
