Yeh I got really cheesed of with Megasquirt in general. Spent a long time trying to get it to work properly - gave up and bought an Omex kit instead

I looked at the meqsquiff set up as well and it all seemed to be a minefield , also reading through the forums there are thousands of people out there with these home built ecu`s having shed loads of grief,. As far as costing goes it seems no cheaper, I went emerald < dave walker> who are more than happy to talk you through whats what, advise on your needs and deal with any problems, they also have all the base maps and years of experience in the field to draw from. That alone would make up any shortfall in costs. Just thoughts.

Well, it depends on whether you want to build it yourself or buy it built. I see it as a direct analogy with, say, Westfield vs Haynes Roadster. So it boils down to whether you're friends with the soldering iron.

One more of the ready-made EFI controllers is VEMS. My impression is that it is a bit cheaper than Omex or Emerald.

megersquirts strength is its own weekness the pure fact that it is a diy system that can be config'ed to run almost anything makes it a bit of a mine field with soft and hardware setup.
you need a good understanding of how efi works as well as a bit of eletronics skill.
its best to build your own if you can then you know you will have the hardware setup you need (ebay buyers should check what thay are buying first)

best place to get support is the msextra forum (if your running a extra firmware)

what you trying to squirt i will try and point you in the right direction and check my info to see if your engine is supported.

i did a quick search and i see you say you are using a vauxhall engine and im pritty sure its all been done before

there is support for crank triggers of 60-2 that gm,bmw, bosch use
there are plenty of redtops running ms and im sure 8v have been done if its an older engine ms can run of most dizzy setups from points to eletronic.

as for induction that would depend on what your fiting

Building the thing was easy enough, and its good quality board, its making the software work that prooved frustrating and having spent several years working on ecu calibration for oem's you'd have though that part would be a cinch. Its trying to be all things to all engines and that making it too complicated. Trying to make all different sensors work with each other just and never being sure whether its something you've done wrong became too frustrating. I wanted something that would work so I could just get on and play
Most stuff is surface mount now so not really diy-able.
Happy with the way I went in the end but sure could have saved myself some time and money.

im running my saab engine off a ms3. its been a brill bit of kit. the best tip i can give is if you dont have a month of evenings to learn all about how it works reading the manual and forums dont bother. i started reading up on them easily 6months before i even built mine and to be honest the whole thing was a doddle.

just sign up to msextra that is the best ms forum by far.

as for your crank wiring just wire the sensor up as it shows in the ms manual. if you dont know what pin is what on the vr sensor just look it up on the bosch (manufacturers website)

little tip. your tooth angle will be 114deg not 20something degrees like the vauxhall forums suggest in their guide. found that out on ben copelands redtop when we did his ms2
