Default sohc

Further to my recent post about using a pinto,a guy up the road from me has a sohc complete engine that he only wants a drink for the lot, says he has a rad, prop shaft gearbox too. It was originally a 2 litre he has bored it out to 2.2 with high lift cam it will need the head updating for unleaded. He was using it in a cortina until a while ago. I need to have a look at it but it sounds promising. I have bought drum rear uprights for my car and planned to fit disc at the front what do people think about rear drums and front discs for a 2.2 will it be ok? And what about the engine ? thanks for all the recent help and posts with regard to pinto engines it has all been very helpful.

It sounds ok, if it was running until recently and if your happy with a pinto and it suits what you want to build fill your boots. They pretty much do what it says on the lablel and you can always change it further down the line.
One thing is you should have an easier time when it comes to emmissions as they pre-date the cat.

sounds like an uber bargain.

Disks + drums will be fine. the XR4i had these pushing 150BHP and 1.3 Tons.

Disk/Disk can actually be worse.

Thanks for the info, apparently the engine has not been used for a while but I still think its worth a look, thanks again for your input.

Its either the bargain of the century, 2.2's arn't cheap to build so you've either got £2000s worth of engine or he's a Bulls**ter
If its a big valve head you can't put unleaded valve seats in unfortunatly

Thanks for the help, how will I know if it's a big valve version? With the head removed they all look the same to me. What am I looking for exactly , he seems to know what he is talking about I will just have to ask him.

Standard valves are 42mm In 36mm Ex
A true 2.2 will be 94mm bore or a stroked crank possibly ofset ground with desiel rods
As said 2.2 will go for good money unless its sh4gged, once a 93mm (or 94mm) pinto is worn it means a another block
