Rear Suspension - possibility of widening?
Hi everybody,
I'm in a bit of a mess atm! Well i have the rear suspension cage fully welded about 5mm to one side, causing it to be off centre. As its fully welded i dont reali wanto be cutting it off and rewelding. I was wondering would it be acceptable for the brackets and rear suspension to be 5mm to one side? Or would the drive shafts allow for the suspension to be widened 5mm on either side to even things up? Thanks Very Much, Darryl |

You could just pack the rear suspension brackets out on the other side. Make a custom set of rear suspension brackets with the hole off set or rear wishbones one 5mm shorter and one 5mm longer. The other way would be to just ignore it and put a 5mm spacer on the other wheel.

thanks for that,
the spacer seems like a good idea, but if i widened the two sides by 5mm, would the drive shafts be long enough? Thanks, darryl |

I might be wrong but if you split the difference with regards the diff mounting 5mm is not the end of the world. CV joints have a fair amount of movement in them.

yes there seems to be a good amount of leverage in the cv joints.
I will try one of those options, thanks for the reply, darryl |

Pocket the rail and sink the bracket to the rail. and pack on the other side.

Trial fit the rear suspension and measure from the seatback uprights of the chassis to the rear uprights face.( clamp some 25x25 on the outside and measure the gap)
My chassis is 20mm out somwhere at the rear and the brackets are placed perfectly on the diff cage and I did the above and its equal both sides, dont ask why.

Not if your fully welding the suspension brackets into the gap.
