![]() as the complex shape of the chassis and the facy im gettig a small amount of serface rust from degreaseing the tubes for welding im thinking of some form of wounder fix as i dont fancy spending hours cleaning it up
we used Phosphoric acid based cleaners where i used to work it lifted off light rusting and made a paint over protective coating its what most rust remidys are made of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphoric_acid just a shame i dont know where i can get hold of some deb janitol altrans is the only thing i can come up with it is a acid cleaner version whats your solution to the problem |

![]() I guess the easiest way to keep the rust at bay is to keep the bare metal well oiled until you are ready to paint the chassis, a nice oily rag should do the trick.
Best not to work any oil into unwelded joints though ![]() Duck oil works quite well, this tends to leave a nice light coating once it has evaporated & will burn away quickly if the area needs welding.

![]() Try this stuff
http://www.rust.co.uk/rust-converters.cfm It's about 22 quid for a litre which should be enough to do a full chassis. Then you can just paint directly onto it. You can also water it down to dip pieces, or spray it into the chassis rails to avoid internal rust from working it's way through. Same company do the epoxy mastic 121 paint for chassis too, so might get a discount on postage.

![]() The POR, Paint-Over-Rust chassis paint I intend to use doesn't stick to clean bare metal. In my procrastination, my chassis has "prepared" itself with a nice overall coat for my paint to stick to.
