Cool Forgot what a nice car was

My life revolves around 4x4`s plant, trucks and machinery. With our workshops we often get conned into repairs for mates. Anyway a mate phoned and said my jag needs a gearbox, it was dropped down here and as i moved it round the yard i noticed it had a dash full of fault lights up. Thats just not us so I got onto a mate who said he would do it and sort through the fault codes. So I delivered it. Its an xj8, what a nice car that is. Even with a dodgy autobox it was a pleasure to drive, I must have over the years lost touch with what a nice car is. Super smooth, super quiet, stops well, goes well.I then needed a lift back and that was in one of those v8 diesel audi saloon cars, Jesus what a tool, those big diesels really do haul the freight. I can feel a big saloon coming on

modern diesel engins are so much nicer and way more powerful and economic than the mech pump rubish of yester year
my mazda 6 estate has 186bhp 400nm and gets 56mpg and i don't drive that slow
not bad for a 4 pot td

We have Land Cruiser V8 turbo diesels on the mine site and they go like stink, put into 4wd low and you could pull a tank up a hill.

XJ's were always praised and hailed as one of the best cars in the world, right from the S1 through even the XJ40 to the XJ300. No idea what the latest incarnation is like, other than not a proper XJ.

I quite like my XJR. It's the v8 4 litre 32 valve quad ohc supercharged beastie with the smaller supercharger pulley that lifts power to just over 400 brake. It does the 0-60 dash in just under 5 seconds. The A/C will keep the car at 18 degrees on even the hottest day, the stereo sounds great, the seats are 12 way electrically adjustable. When you open the car it knows which fob was used and sets the seats and mirrors to the driver's preset positions. It is the most comfortable and quietest car I have ever driven, it is also the fastest. Although limited electronically to 155 allegedly it will do 175 unrestricted - I have no intention of seeing if mine has been done or not. These cars can be bought incredibly cheaply, I think they are the best value for money anywhere. I got my 10 year old example as a fully repaired cat c for about 2500. They can be expensive to maintain but the previous owner of my car had already done most of the work, I just had to do some bushes and a ball joint. Maybe not as much summer fun as a roadster but one hell of a car to drive daily.
Dave.

Sounds nice Enoch. GBP2500 so probably about $40,000 here plus stamp duty.

Curry night last night so off out with the boys.Time to talk bollocks eat to much, drink to much and make a twat of ones self. Anyway not my turn to drive and a mate who is not gifted with brilliant eyesight picked me up in one of these http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e8mNDnzzZW...nturismo_5.jpg . He picked it up for 12k and decided that he would take me for a blast on the way to the curry house. Bloody scary with mr mcgoo at the wheel http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AcBUSVxs82...0/Mr_Magoo.jpg . Nice car but i think you would tire of the horrendous road noises in the thing. I dont think i have been in a noisier modern car, nice engine noise ferrari v8 he tells me. Flappy paddle gearchange, which he had not mastered . 6 out of 10.
