Yeh I got really cheesed of with Megasquirt in general. Spent a long time trying to get it to work properly - gave up and bought an Omex kit instead

I looked at the meqsquiff set up as well and it all seemed to be a minefield , also reading through the forums there are thousands of people out there with these home built ecu`s having shed loads of grief,. As far as costing goes it seems no cheaper, I went emerald < dave walker> who are more than happy to talk you through whats what, advise on your needs and deal with any problems, they also have all the base maps and years of experience in the field to draw from. That alone would make up any shortfall in costs. Just thoughts.

Well, it depends on whether you want to build it yourself or buy it built. I see it as a direct analogy with, say, Westfield vs Haynes Roadster. So it boils down to whether you're friends with the soldering iron.

One more of the ready-made EFI controllers is VEMS. My impression is that it is a bit cheaper than Omex or Emerald.

megersquirts strength is its own weekness the pure fact that it is a diy system that can be config'ed to run almost anything makes it a bit of a mine field with soft and hardware setup.
you need a good understanding of how efi works as well as a bit of eletronics skill.
its best to build your own if you can then you know you will have the hardware setup you need (ebay buyers should check what thay are buying first)

best place to get support is the msextra forum (if your running a extra firmware)

what you trying to squirt i will try and point you in the right direction and check my info to see if your engine is supported.

i did a quick search and i see you say you are using a vauxhall engine and im pritty sure its all been done before

there is support for crank triggers of 60-2 that gm,bmw, bosch use
there are plenty of redtops running ms and im sure 8v have been done if its an older engine ms can run of most dizzy setups from points to eletronic.

as for induction that would depend on what your fiting

thank guys its not that ! i was more miffed off i couldn't register on the actual forum as it doesn't like any of my email addresses !!!!!! so couldn't search for the help i needed or post for specific help. still haven't !

anyway today i have made some progress the engine is wired up along with all the techedge wideband etc etc i have the ecu talking to my laptop all fine started a project im happy with the mega squirt i bought from extraefi Phil has been great.

the problems ive been having are with the vauxhall x20xev crank position sensor wiring, which wire does what ( & which i found virtually destroyed at the sensor ) new one ordered.

but then the coilpack wiring is the same the wiring goes into the coilpack and i cannot see which wire powers which coil. the haynes manual is cak as its all the german system.

ill get there in the end. sortof regret not sourcing the sierra now bit i have enjoyed the challenge the omega build has brought !

Do you know about mailinator.com? You can make up any email @mailinator.com and then come and check it after the fact if they require any email confirmation. Good for places you don't trust not to spam you.

you should have a vr type sensor on your crank it is basicly a magnet with a tiny copper wire wraped around it (2 inner wires) with a screened cable to stop rf interfearnce (1 wire around the out side) as the teeth pass the end of the magnet the flux is moved and a an ac voltage is made with a wave to match the teeth the ms or ecu looks for the point where v crosses the 0v point and uses this as its crank reff point.

with a multi meter in ohm setting you should get a conection between 2 of the wires around 0.5-1k thats your signel the screen should not be connected to the other 2

here is the tricky bit get the two signel wire the wrong way around (polarity) and the up is down so your sync or timing will be out at your missing tooth/teeth point

look here under vr's
http://www.msextra.com/doc/index.html

as for your coil if its wasted spark coil you will have 3 wires as basicly its two coils joined together

1 pin will be ign+ center pin on a ford coil iirc
the other 2 pins will be trigger- from the ms for cyl 1+4 and 2+3

a multi meter in ohms setting can be used again to find out whats what
the restence should be = from the ign+ pin to both the other 2 trigger pins with the highest restence from one trigger pin to the other.
wire it up and if you get your firing order wrong swap over the trigger wires or the 1+4 and 2+3 ht leads
if you forgot what ht lead point is what each pair should be conected

i hope you can understand it now
